Houses Burned In Manipur Village As Security Rises

Several houses were set on fire in an abandoned village in Manipur during ongoing ethnic tensions in the state. Unidentified miscreants torched multiple residential houses in Khoikai village located in Manipur's Kamjong district early on October 21, 2026. State security officials reported that no casualties were found as the village had been empty since April 2026 due to regional conflicts.

Top Security Officials Visit District

Following the arson attack, a high-level security delegation visited the district to review the situation, as reported by NewsonAir. The team included Manipur Director General of Police Mukesh Singh, the Additional DGP for Law and Order, and the DIG of the Border Security Force. The delegation held a joint coordination meeting with the 11 Assam Rifles and the BSF to improve security operations.

Peace Talks And Further Violence

DGP Singh also met with representatives from Kuki and Naga civil society organizations to discuss peace efforts, according to PTI. Local groups made conflicting allegations regarding the arson while Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen condemned the violence. Tensions escalated further when about 15 more houses were burned in Pilong village on October 22. In response, security forces including the Assam Rifles, BSF, and Kamjong Police have increased patrolling and operations in the area.
