Heavy Rain Alert Issued for North Bengal and West Bengal

The regional meteorological center in Alipore has issued an alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across various parts of West Bengal. As the monsoon remains active, several districts in both Gangetic and sub-Himalayan West Bengal are expected to experience significant weather activity today.

Weather Forecast for North and South Bengal

In South Bengal, districts including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, Birbhum, East and West Bardhaman, Bankura, Purulia, East and West Midnapore, and Jhargram are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. The weather department has noted that these areas may also witness lightning strikes and winds blowing at 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. Similarly, across North Bengal, districts such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar are expected to see continued rain and thunderstorms, with hilly regions likely to experience a higher impact of rainfall.

Advisory for Fishermen

A special warning has been issued for fishermen operating along the coasts of West Bengal and North Odisha from August 11 to August 14. Due to the active weather system, wind speeds are expected to reach 35 to 45 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 55 kilometers per hour. Authorities have advised fishermen against venturing into the sea during this period as waves could reach heights of 1.1 to 1.2 meters.

The Alipore weather office has projected that the current weather conditions, including heavy rain and gusty winds, will likely persist across Gangetic West Bengal through August 14. While the heavy rain warning remains in effect for the coming days, there are currently no specific weather alerts issued for the period between August 15 and August 17.
