Guwahati Police have registered an official case after a complaint by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India regarding a viral video.
The disturbing video allegedly shows a man kicking chicks onto railway tracks from a train, leaving them to die.
According to PETA India, the footage shows chicks suffering from serious injuries, broken bones, and being transported without proper enclosures.
The FIR was registered under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and various sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
PETA India worked with local animal activist Aditi Bakshi to pursue police action after receiving the video.
Pranjit Borah, Senior Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP), Pandu, Guwahati, directed the immediate registration of the FIR.
