Gorumara National Park Celebrates World Elephant Day

Gorumara National Park in Jalpaiguri organized special awareness programs and activities to mark World Elephant Day on Tuesday. The event, held in collaboration with Jumbo Troops, focused on promoting elephant conservation and community welfare within the park premises.

Awareness Programs for Children

To educate the younger generation about wildlife, the organizers conducted a drawing competition and various awareness sessions. The primary goal of these activities was to teach children the importance of protecting elephants and other wildlife from a young age. These initiatives aimed to foster a sense of responsibility toward nature among local students.

Health Support for Mahouts and Staff

A dedicated health camp was organized for the mahouts and staff who care for the forest department elephants. A team of doctors from Malbazar Hospital performed health check-ups for the workers and provided them with essential health kits. Currently, there are 32 elephants in Gorumara that assist the forest department with daily patrols and other official duties.

Special Fruit Cake Celebration

To celebrate World Elephant Day, the organizers arranged a unique event where a fruit cake was cut instead of a standard bakery cake. This symbolic gesture highlighted the connection between nature and the animals. The event featured various colorful programs and educational activities to spread the message of conservation to the public.
