Gautam Gambhir Criticises Pitch After Guwahati Run Fest

India head coach Gautam Gambhir criticised the Guwahati pitch after his side chased down 406 runs against the West Indies in the second ODI. He stated that there needs to be a better balance between bat and ball.

Match Details and Record Chase

India completed the highest successful run chase in their ODI history, reaching the target of 406 in just 43.3 overs to win by eight wickets and take a 2-0 lead in the series. West Indies had posted 405 for seven after centuries from John Campbell, Shai Hope, and Amir Jangoo. In response, Shubman Gill scored 223 not out off 133 balls and Rohit Sharma made 101 off 75 balls to guide India to victory.

Concerns for Bowlers

Gambhir argued that pitches offering no help to bowlers are unfair. He mentioned that while high-scoring games are good for records, crowds, and broadcasters, bowlers need more support and margin for error on such tracks. He also defended young bowlers like debutant Auqib Nabi and Gurnoor Brar, explaining that exposing them to pressure situations is essential as India prepares for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
