Gangtok Landslides Disrupt Transport And Homes After Heavy Rain

Continuous heavy rainfall has caused severe landslides and road blockages across the Gangtok district in Sikkim. The District Disaster Management Authority has started an intensive damage assessment to check affected areas.
Damage To Roads And Homes
Multiple road stretches remain obstructed and several residential houses have sustained damage due to mudflows and debris. Affected locations include parts of the Luing-Ranka Highway, High Court Road, VIP Colony, and Sichey. Public infrastructure such as a sewage treatment plant and a switching station have also been impacted.
Safety Measures And Official Response
Authorities have placed tarpaulins at vulnerable slide zones to limit rainwater seepage and directed departments to clear blocked roads. Officials have urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel through landslide-prone areas and remain alert during the night.
