Fresh Clashes Reported at Assam Arunachal Border

Tensions rose at the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in the Dhemaji district on Thursday as new clashes occurred between protesters. Security forces from Arunachal Pradesh fired warning shots into the air to control the crowds after stone-pelting and physical fights caused minor injuries to several people. This incident took place during the second day of an indefinite economic blockade started by local groups in Assam.

Impact of the Economic Blockade

The ongoing blockade has caused major problems for transport and trade between the two states. Hundreds of fuel tankers, supply trucks, and commercial vehicles are currently stuck on National Highway routes that lead into eastern Arunachal Pradesh. Due to the risk of more violence, local markets and border haats have been kept closed by authorities.

Government Response to Border Unrest

To manage the situation, administrations from both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have taken immediate action. Additional security forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Officials from both states have also started high-level flag meetings to discuss the situation and work toward de-escalating the unrest.
