A severe multi-vehicle collision on the Guwahati-Shillong highway left four people injured and blocked traffic in the hill lane. The accident involved a commercial passenger vehicle and a light SUV, causing one of the vehicles to overturn onto its side across the tarmac.
The impact shattered windows and left vehicle fluids scattered on the road surface, stopping traffic immediately. Highway patrol units and local village responders arrived at the scene to perform rescue operations, prying open passenger doors to extract trapped individuals.
Four injured commuters were transported to a nearby community health center to receive treatment for lacerations and fractures. Emergency wreckers were subsequently deployed to right the overturned vehicle and clear the debris from the roadway before the start of peak afternoon inter-state traffic.
Regional transport unions renewed their demands for more rigorous speed-monitoring enforcement and the maintenance of rumble strips on sharp corners. Officials noted that the heavily traveled route often sees reckless overtaking that leads to rollover collisions.
