Four people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on National Highway 27 near Lalungaon in Guwahati on Thursday, July 9, 2026. The accident happened around 1:00 PM when a vehicle entered from a secondary bypass and drove on the wrong side of the road, crashing into an oncoming light commercial truck and causing a pileup.
Highway patrol units and local rescue volunteers pulled the occupants out of the vehicles and took them to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. A traffic police official from the Garchuk Traffic Branch confirmed that the four people sustained only minor injuries and were discharged to go home. The police investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
The collision caused heavy traffic jams and a miles-long gridlock on the Guwahati bypass. Following the incident, local transport associations asked highway authorities to stop motorists from using illegal intersection cuts. They demanded the installation of physical median barriers and tire-deflating spikes to stop wrong-side driving in the area.
