Police have arrested four people, including the owner and manager of a homestay in Sitong, following a fire incident where a woman suffered burn injuries during a barbecue. The arrests were made by the Kurseong police station based on a complaint filed by the victim's family on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred on the night of September 13 at a homestay in the Khasmahal area of Sitong-1. Souvik Saha and his wife Nikita Saha had arrived at the homestay on a motorcycle.
According to the manager, a chicken barbecue was ordered, and a sudden fire broke out when a flammable liquid was allegedly added to the charcoal fire, causing the woman to get caught in the flames.
The injured woman's father alleged that there were no proper fire safety arrangements at the homestay and that it took about an hour and a half to arrange a vehicle.
Due to the lack of an ambulance in Sitong and the delay in transport, it took a long time to bring the injured woman from the hills to Siliguri for medical treatment.
Kurseong Additional Superintendent of Police Anindya Sundar Bhattacharya stated that action was taken based on the complaint and the investigation is ongoing.
