Police have arrested four people in connection with the murder of BJP worker Bapi Pramanik in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas.
The arrested accused include Sujan Mondal, a suspended leader from the BJP.
The other three arrested individuals are Krishna Mondal, Kanak Mondal, and Anil Naiya. According to local sources, a dispute broke out between two groups on Sunday in Uttar Tengerberia village over the control of a Durga Puja committee.
The argument quickly escalated into a violent physical clash. The family of the victim alleged that Bapi was called out of his house at night and attacked with sharp weapons.
They accused suspended BJP leader Sujan Mondal of being the main conspirator behind the attack. The family claimed that Trinamool-backed criminals carried out the attack according to Sujan's plan and that Bapi's wife witnessed the incident.
An official complaint was registered at the Baruipur police station following the incident.
Police detained three people for questioning on Monday and later arrested four individuals based on the findings. Authorities are currently investigating the exact motive behind the murder and the specific role of each arrested accused.
