Former TMC leader arrested for misappropriation of funds

Naxalbari police arrested former gram panchayat deputy head and Trinamool Congress regional president Biswajit Ghosh on Monday night. The arrest follows allegations of misappropriation of government funds and failure to deposit panchayat revenue. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by BJP leader Sadhan Chakraborty, who serves as the opposition leader in the Naxalbari gram panchayat.

Details of the financial allegations

According to the complaint, the accused allegedly collected revenue from various sources but failed to deposit the money into the panchayat office account. The allegations suggest that revenue collected from the local bus stand, advertising hoardings, and toll taxes were not submitted to the official government fund. Sadhan Chakraborty stated that the total amount involved in the alleged misappropriation is approximately three lakh rupees. It is claimed that the former deputy head operated the panchayat office as a personal entity to divert these funds.

Protest during court appearance

On Tuesday, police presented the accused before the Siliguri court to face legal proceedings. During the transit to the court, BJP leaders and local workers gathered to stage a protest against the accused. The demonstrators raised slogans accusing him of theft and allegedly threw eggs at him as he was being escorted by the police. Following the Hindusthan Samachar report, the situation outside the court remained tense as supporters of the opposition party demanded strict action regarding the missing government revenue.
