Fishermen Save Baby Elephant From Teesta River

Brave fishermen in Jalpaiguri district saved a baby elephant from the strong current of the Teesta River and handed it over to the forest department.

Teesta River Rescue Operation

The incident took place early Monday morning in the Gazoldoba Teesta Barrage area. Members of the North Bengal Fishermen Forum saw the baby elephant being swept away by the fast river water. Taking a big risk, the fishermen used a boat to chase the animal for about four kilometers.

Handed Over to Forest Department

The fishermen safely brought the baby elephant onto their boat and brought it to the riverbank. According to the fishermen, the baby elephant was healthy during the rescue. They later handed the animal over to the forest workers of the Kathambari range, and it is now under forest department care. The successful rescue team included forum members Mithu Das, Rajesh Das, Vishwanath Das, Gopal Das, and Bablu Das.
