Female Rhino Dies After Entering Residential Area in Falakata

A female rhinoceros wandered out of the forest and entered a residential area in Falakata, Alipurduar, leading to its death. The animal had entered a village along with its calf, causing significant damage to property before collapsing in a garden. Forest department officials arrived at the scene to recover the carcass and secure the calf.

Incident at Kunjnagar Village

The incident took place on Tuesday morning around 7:00 AM when the two rhinos emerged from the Kunjnagar forest. They entered the home of a local teacher named Sushil Kumar Sinha. The female rhinoceros became aggressive and caused extensive damage to the property. The destruction included two tubewells, two bicycles, two sewing machines, and a wooden bed, along with a concrete wall of the house.

Cause of Death and Rescue Operation

After the rampage, the animal appeared extremely exhausted and eventually died in a nearby garden. According to the Hindusthan Samachar report, initial investigations by the Jaldapara Forest Department suggest the rhino may have suffered a heart attack due to extreme physical exhaustion. Forest personnel reached the location promptly to retrieve the deceased rhino and safely rescued the calf.
