Deepjyoti Thakuria, the father of a deceased Gauhati University student named Nimisha Thakuria, has demanded strict punishment for the accused. The student was found unconscious at a homestay near Azara on the outskirts of Guwahati and was later declared brought dead at a hospital.
Police officials confirmed that the main accused, identified as Ashik Ali, has been caught and is currently in police custody. According to police, three youths brought the student to a health centre before she was referred to Guwahati Medical College & Hospital. The accused claimed that the victim hanged herself, and police stated that the matter is under active investigation.
Local residents and students staged a protest in the Dharapur area to demand strict action against the accused. Protesters blocked National Highway 17 and called for a proper investigation into the incident.
