An internal investigation by Swasthya Bhavan has revealed major irregularities involving fake bills at a private multi-specialty hospital in Purba Bardhaman. The inspection team found that the hospital allegedly created fake bills to claim large amounts of money from the government health insurance scheme.
The investigation uncovered four main types of irregularities at the nursing home. Officials stated that surgical cases were wrongly shown under the medical management package to get higher funds, such as showing stroke treatment costs up to 90,000 rupees while bone surgeries normally cost much less.
Hospital records also showed that spinal surgeries were performed by orthopedic doctors instead of neurosurgeons. Furthermore, old CT scan reports of stroke patients were allegedly reused by changing names and dates on computers to falsely show other individuals as stroke patients.
The Association of Private Hospital and Nursinghome stated that it does not support any such irregularities. Association secretary Rajib Pandey said that government health schemes must benefit common people transparently and corrupt hospitals will not be given membership.
