Railway workers are busy fixing damaged tracks and clearing broken concrete sleepers in Assam after a goods train jumped the rails. Emergency railway repair squads are working hard in the Harangajao sector of the Dima Hasao district to fix the track beds following the accident. The freight wagon derailed because shifting soil and water made the ground unstable on a mountain turn.
Dozens of workers are using heavy tools like hydraulic jacks and iron bars to fix the bent steel rails while working in continuous rain.
Rail authorities have stopped normal freight trains between Lumding and Badarpur so only emergency repair trains can use the single mountain track.
The railway area has faced ground shifting problems since July 20, 2026, due to water accumulation and changing natural water streams. The Northeast Frontier Railway recently fixed some lines at the New Harangajao station by September 4, 2026, but repair work on other lines is still going on.
Heavy rainfall on September 3, 2026, also caused soil erosion near tracks between Assam and Mizoram, which forced the cancellation of passenger trains like the Guwahati–Silchar Express.
