An elderly man was beaten to death with a rod on Friday morning following a property dispute in the Bagpara Chhotbelu area under the Piarapur outpost of Serampore police station limits in Hooghly. The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Yogeshwar Chandra Bag, who worked as a delivery man for Bharat Gas Agency. Locals described him as a quiet and friendly person.
The accused, Tapan Bag, reached the Piarapur outpost and surrendered before the police after the incident.
Police reached the spot upon receiving the information, took the body into custody, and sent it to Serampore Walsh Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police have started an investigation into the matter to find the exact cause and circumstances of the incident.
