Eight United Democratic Party MLAs who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party submitted a merger letter to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Friday. The legislators informed the House of their merger with the BJP through the letter.
The letter was submitted to Andrew Simons, Adviser for Legislation at the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, as the Speaker Thomas A Sangma was away in Malta on a study tour. The legislators were accompanied by BJP State President Rikman G Momin and BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai during the submission.
Andrew Simons confirmed that all eight legislators submitted their papers and the documents will be examined according to rules and constitutional provisions. Seven of the MLAs were physically present while the documents for Mayralborn Syiem were also submitted. The Assembly Secretariat will examine all points before the Speaker takes a final decision.
