Dushyant Gautam will take the oath of office as the new Governor of Sikkim on October 19, 2026, at Lok Bhawan in Gangtok. The oath will be administered by the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court.
President Droupadi Murmu appointed Gautam on October 12, succeeding Om Prakash Mathur who moved to Kerala. The appointment follows protests by Congress leaders in Dehradun opposing the selection.
An FIR was registered against former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat and other Congress leaders following the protest. Congress MP Kumari Selja criticized the appointment, while Rahul Gandhi urged the President to reconsider the decision until ongoing investigations are completed.
