The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has busted a major drug smuggling ring in North-East India. According to a Press Information Bureau press release, officials seized 231.8 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine tablets during a coordinated operation.
Officials intercepted four trucks used to transport the illegal drugs on September 15, 2026. One vehicle was stopped first, while intelligence led to another truck being intercepted near Panisagar in Tripura. The operation took place across multiple locations in Assam and Tripura.
Authorities have arrested three people linked to the smuggling ring. The DRI stated that this is one of the largest methamphetamine seizures ever recorded in the region, with an estimated market value in the hundreds of crores of rupees.
