Young karate athletes from the Dooars region achieved notable success at the 10th International Karate Championship held in Kolkata. The event took place at the Netaji Indoor Stadium from July 31 to August 2, featuring participants from eight different countries. A total of 15 students from the Kesari Karate Academy in the Kalchini block of Alipurduar district represented the region and secured 25 medals.

Medal Tally and Competition Details

The young competitors displayed significant skill during the international tournament. The team from Dooars won 6 gold medals, 8 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals. These athletes, who hail from various forest settlements and rural areas, competed against international players throughout the three-day event. Their performance has been recognized by local residents and sports enthusiasts as a major achievement for the district.

Grand Welcome at Hamiltonganj Station

Upon their return to the region on Monday, the winning athletes received a warm welcome. Family members, local residents, and sports fans gathered at the Hamiltonganj railway station to greet the students with flowers and applause. The academy trainer attributed this success to the discipline and hard work of the children, as well as the ongoing support provided by their parents. The performance of these athletes has brought attention to the talent present within the rural and forest communities of the Dooars region.
