The district administration of Paschim Bardhaman has started strict action against the rising prices of vegetables and essential food items in Asansol market. Following complaints of price hikes, District Magistrate S. Ponnambalam formed four special task forces to monitor market prices and check illegal activities.
Special teams have been created to keep a continuous watch on the market situation across the district. Two task forces are set up for the Asansol-Durgapur Municipal Corporation area, while separate teams will work under the leadership of respective Sub-Divisional Officers outside the municipal area.
The main goal of these teams is to find the real price situation of essential goods in the market. The task force will check the difference between wholesale purchase prices and retail selling prices, and also look for artificial price hikes, black marketing, and hoarding. Shop weights and measurement equipment are also being inspected to protect consumers.
Strict legal action will be taken against traders found involved in hoarding, black marketing, or unjustified price increases. The administration is closely watching the prices of essential goods like sugar, rice, and onion across major markets in Asansol, Raniganj, Durgapur, Rupnarayanpur, Kulti, and Burnpur.
