Bengal sweet makers are facing heavy pressure due to the continuous increase in the prices of sugar and other raw materials. Makers have urged the government to take immediate steps to control the prices of sugar and essential raw materials. These problems were highlighted by business owners during the Mishti Udyog event held at the Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan on Friday, where they submitted a written application to minister Dilip Ghosh.
The rising cost of production is creating a huge challenge for businesses as they struggle to balance high costs without putting an extra price burden on customers.
Sugar is a primary raw material along with milk, khoya, and other necessary ingredients. If production costs keep increasing, it will directly impact the traditional sweet business, making it very difficult for small and medium businesses to survive. They have demanded urgent government intervention to control market prices.
Minister Dilip Ghosh stressed the need to connect Bengal's traditional sweet and savoury industry with modern technology to move forward.
Better packaging and improved quality can make Bengal sweets much stronger in domestic and international markets, giving a financial boost to artisans and small business owners. The event also included discussions on increasing product quality, modernizing packaging, and export possibilities to give traditional sweet products a better identity in national and international markets.
