Family members of thirty year old Anita Khatun claimed she died by suicide. They alleged she took the extreme step due to not receiving money under the Annapurna scheme. Her body was found hanging in Gazole block of Malda district on Saturday afternoon. Relatives stated she faced mental stress after failing to get the scheme funds despite online and offline applications.

During a morning tea meeting in Kharagpur, Dilip Ghosh stated that investigations are needed to find why people are dying by suicide over various issues.
