Devotees Gather at Historic Uttarshwar Temple in West Bengal

A large number of devotees visited the ancient Uttarshwar Shiva temple in the Shyamla area of Jamuria on the final Monday of the holy month of Sawan. The temple is historically linked to Uttara, the wife of Abhimanyu, who was the son of Arjuna from the Mahabharata. People stood in long lines from early morning to offer water to the Shivling and seek blessings.
MLA Visits Temple for Prayers
Jamuria MLA Dr. Bijan Mukherjee also attended the prayers at the temple. He carried a kanwar on his shoulder and offered water to the deity. After completing his worship, he prayed for the peace and well-being of the local people. The temple premises were filled with devotees chanting religious slogans throughout the day.
Distribution of Famous Sweets
On this occasion, special arrangements were made to distribute sweets to the visitors. Local residents from Bhuri village organized the distribution of Sitabhog, a traditional sweet from Bardhaman that holds a GI tag. According to the organizers, enough sweets were prepared for five to six thousand devotees. The MLA praised this effort and thanked the organizers for their service to the public.
Infrastructure Plans for Temple Road
During his visit, the MLA discussed the condition of the road leading to the temple. He noted that the path is currently narrow and overgrown with bushes and weeds. He promised to take necessary steps in the coming days to improve the road for better access. The organizers, who provide food or sweets every year on the last Monday of Sawan, stated that they plan to expand these services next year.
