Delhi Police Arrests Creator Over Racial Abuse Of Youth

Delhi Police arrested social media content creator Amir Shokeen on Thursday, October 22, 2026, after a video showing the racial harassment of a young tribal man from Tripura went viral. The incident originally happened on September 19, but public anger grew when the footage resurfaced online on October 21, 2026. Formal complaints were filed by groups like the Tripura Students’ Forum Delhi, Youth Tipra Federation, and other youth organizations.

A case was registered against Shokeen at the Sadar Bazar Police Station under sections 192, 196, 352, and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Deputy Commissioner of Police North Niharika Bhatt confirmed the arrest and noted the suspect has a previous criminal history. At the same time, the Tripura Police registered an FIR and sent a team to Delhi to get Shokeen's transit remand to Agartala, as stated by Inspector General of Police Law and Order Manchak Ipper.

Reactions From Government Officials

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the abuse, stating that the suspect will face severe consequences and authorities will ensure justice is served. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha directed the state Director General of Police to work closely with the Delhi Police during the legal process. Although Shokeen posted an apology video claiming the incident was scripted for comedy, officials and advocacy groups rejected this defense.
