Darjeeling MP Raju Bista has welcomed the announcement of the new 630-kilometre highway corridor connecting Siliguri, Guwahati, and Shillong. The Central government has estimated the cost of this major infrastructure project at 61,500 crore rupees. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari shared the details of this upcoming road project.
The new corridor includes a 400-kilometre stretch between Siliguri and Guwahati with an estimated cost of 30,000 crore rupees. Raju Bista stated in a press release that this initiative will greatly improve road connectivity, trade, and strategic movement across North Bengal and the Northeast.
The project will also work alongside the Gorakhpur-Siliguri expressway to improve travel and transport in the region. Better highways are expected to boost tourism, trade, and job opportunities for the youth in Siliguri, the Terai, the Dooars, and the entire Northeast region.
