One lane of the elevated highway at Darjeeling More in Siliguri was opened to traffic on Sunday to help reduce long traffic jams. The opening ceremony was attended by Darjeeling MP Raju Bista and minister Ajay Poddar.
For years, heavy traffic jams at this busy junction caused problems for students, local residents, patients, business owners, and tourists. Opening this single carriageway will immediately reduce vehicle pressure at the crossing.
This new route helps school and college students reach their classes on time, allows ambulances to reach hospitals faster, and makes moving goods easier for traders. Travel to Siliguri, Darjeeling, and nearby hill areas will now become smoother.
Minister Ajay Poddar also checked the ongoing construction work on the Salugarana section and reviewed the progress of the remaining tasks. The complete elevated corridor stretching from Balasan in Matigara to the Sevoke Army Cantonment has a target completion date of March 2027.
