Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Announces Special Durga Puja Joyrides

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway has announced special joyride services starting October 1, 2026, to boost tourism during the festive Durga Puja season. This initiative was confirmed by Northeast Frontier Railway officials to offer visitors a unique heritage travel experience in the hills.

Special Joyride Schedule and Fares

A total of six special joyride services have been scheduled by the railway authorities. These include four single-trip diesel-operated joyrides between Darjeeling and Ghum, with a fare set at ₹800 per single journey. Additionally, two round-trip services will operate between Kurseong and Mahanadi for travelers.

Steam and Diesel Engine Options

The round-trip offerings feature two distinct experiences for passengers in the region. These include the Red Panda, a steam-engine-hauled journey priced at ₹1,530, and the Mukta Dhara, a diesel-operated journey priced at ₹1,030. These services are designed to provide a nostalgic mountain travel experience across the heritage sites of the region.
