Contractor arrested for threatening Siliguri pub manager

Bhakti Nagar police have arrested a contractor named Gopal Sheel for allegedly threatening the manager of a pub in Siliguri. The arrest was made following a formal complaint filed by the pub manager after he received a death threat over the phone. Police tracked the accused to Raiganj in North Dinajpur district based on secret information and brought him to Siliguri for further legal proceedings.
Background of the dispute
The conflict reportedly began late last month regarding a birthday party held at the pub. During the event, a photograph of a minister was displayed on a large screen inside the premises, which led to a dispute. Following this, the pub owner sent a formal email complaint to BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya. In this complaint, the pub management alleged that Gopal Sheel and two local BJP leaders had demanded money and issued threats to the staff.
Police action and court appearance
The pub manager filed a written complaint at the Bhakti Nagar police station last Thursday after receiving a threatening phone call from the accused. Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and successfully apprehended the suspect in Raiganj. The accused was presented before the Jalpaiguri district court on Saturday morning under tight security. Authorities are currently conducting a detailed investigation to determine if other individuals were involved in the incident and to uncover the motive behind the threats.
