Congress leaders have urged President Droupadi Murmu to cancel the appointment of Sikkim Governor Dushyant Kumar Gautam over the 2022 Ankita Bhandari murder case. KC Venugopal accused the BJP of shielding the accused in the case during a press conference on Wednesday.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met Ankita Bhandari parents at India Gate in New Delhi where the family staged a sit-in protest.
The family is demanding a halt to the appointment until the Central Bureau of Investigation completes its probe into the case.
Congress leaders Supriya Shrinate, NK Premachandran, Jebi Mather, and Imran Pratapgarhi expressed support for the protesting family.
The family suspects that those allegedly involved in the case are being elevated to high constitutional positions.
