Congress submits memo to Naxalbari panchayat over demands

Congress leaders in Naxalbari visited the gram panchayat office on Monday to submit a memorandum containing seven key demands. The local party leadership raised important civic issues concerning the area during this visit.

Key Demands Raised By Congress

The memorandum focused on transparency in panchayat operations, employment works, roads, drainage, street lights, and drinking water issues. District Congress working president Amitabha Sarkar, Naxalbari block Congress president Mohammad Imran, zonal president Nepal Ghosh, and block general secretary Ujjal Das were present during the submission.

Allegations Of Financial Irregularities

Congress leaders alleged that the panchayat deputy chief was recently arrested in connection with alleged financial irregularities. The party demanded that the panchayat make all expenses above ten thousand rupees from its own fund public to maintain financial transparency.

Employment And Infrastructure Issues

The party claimed that 125 days of employment work has not started in the Naxalbari area despite new government directives. They also highlighted the poor condition of important local roads, broken drainage systems, and street light problems.

Drinking Water And Warning

According to Congress, drinking water has reached only one mouza out of twenty-nine areas in Naxalbari through home connections. The leadership warned that they will launch another protest if authorities do not resolve these demands within one month.
