Congress Slams BJP Over Arunachal CM Facing CBI Probe

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has accused the central government of hypocrisy because Pema Khandu remains the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh despite a Supreme Court-ordered CBI inquiry.

Supreme Court Orders CBI Inquiry

The Supreme Court ordered a CBI inquiry on April 6 into contracts worth Rs 1,270 crore awarded between 2015 and 2025 by the Public Works Department. These contracts were given to firms linked to family members of the current Chief Minister, Pema Khandu, who was the PWD Minister at that time. Jairam Ramesh stated that this directive should have resulted in the resignation of the Chief Minister.

CBI Investigation And Court Hearings

The Supreme Court summoned top officials of the Arunachal Pradesh government after the CBI complained that the state government was not cooperating with the inquiry and denying access to relevant files. During the August 24 hearing, the Supreme Court observed that the state supplied huge chunks of documents instead of providing relevant documents. The court stated that submitting a large volume of documents could complicate and delay the investigation. The bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta directed the CBI to submit a fresh status report within two weeks, with the next hearing scheduled for September 25. The case stems from a PIL filed by Save Mon Region Federation and Voluntary Arunachal Senaa. For more details on the statement, you can check the post shared on X.
