Congress MP Bimol Akoijam Leaves For Delhi Over Summons

Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam left Imphal for Delhi on Thursday in response to a police summons regarding a sexual harassment case. He stated that he will fight against injustice and that his journey marks the beginning of addressing decades of suffering faced by his people. Speaking to reporters before leaving, Akoijam maintained that justice will be done.

Police Summons and JNU Case

The Vasant Kunj North Police in Delhi pasted a notice outside Akoijam residence on Wednesday. Jawaharlal Nehru University dismissed Akoijam from service with immediate effect on October 9 following an inquiry into allegations made by eleven female students. The university stated that its Internal Committee recommended major punishment based on its findings. The Delhi Police registered a First Information Report based on a complaint lodged by the JNU Chief Security Officer at Vasant Kunj North Police Station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

BJP Demands Action

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Bansuri Swaraj accused the Congress leadership of remaining silent over the allegations against Akoijam. A BJP women MPs delegation met the Lok Sabha Speaker and submitted a memorandum seeking action against the Inner Manipur Congress MP.
