Political tension has risen in Jalpaiguri after a clash between members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Students Federation of India (SFI). The trouble started at Anandachandra College and Jalpaiguri Law College, leading to accusations of attacks on student workers.
ABVP has reported that a clash took place on Monday at the Jalpaiguri Law College between the two student groups.
Later that night, ABVP workers faced an alleged attack in front of Anandachandra College, leaving one worker with a serious head injury.
The student group claims that outsiders are trying to ruin the peaceful environment of educational institutions and has demanded a stop to political interference.
ABVP has separated itself from a separate incident involving vandalism and arson at the CPI(M) district office late Monday night.
The organization stated it has no link to that incident and wants a fair investigation into it as well.
ABVP leader Deep Dutta stated that attempts to create fear in colleges using outsiders will not succeed and the group will continue to protest for student rights.
