A clash broke out between two groups at Sukanto Maidan in Asansol on Saturday night over an old dispute involving children. The argument quickly escalated into physical violence, leaving several people injured and creating tension in the area. Police forces were deployed immediately to control the situation and prevent further escalation.

Details of the Clash

The dispute started among children playing and sitting at Sukanto Maidan, which is located between ward numbers 42 and 43. The argument soon drew in adults from both sides, leading to a physical fight. Mohammad Safiqullah Khan alleged that a group attacked his brother at the ground, causing head injuries that required treatment at the Asansol District Hospital. Another local resident, Manik, accused a group led by Kallu from Namopara of trying to create unrest in the area.

Police Action and Current Status

Following the incident, women from one side blocked the road in protest. Officers from the Asansol South police station arrived at the spot, cleared the road, and pacified both groups. Senior officials, including station in-charge Biswajit Mukherjee and DC Central Dhruv Das, visited the site to assess the situation. Police appealed to locals to maintain peace and avoid rumors, while initiating steps to form a peace committee to resolve future issues through dialogue. Authorities stated that the situation is currently under control and an investigation is underway.
