Civic Volunteers Accused of Rape in Dhupguri One Arrested

A serious case of sexual assault involving three civic volunteers has emerged in North Bengal where a young woman from Mekhliganj was allegedly held captive and assaulted in Dhupguri for three days. Police have confirmed the arrest of one accused while two others remain on the run.

According to reports from Hindusthan Samachar, the victim was allegedly lured from Mekhliganj to Dhupguri by the three suspects. The accused kept the woman in a rented house where the crime occurred over a period of three days. The incident came to light after the victim filed a formal complaint at the Mekhliganj police station.
Police Action and Investigation
Following the complaint, the Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri district police conducted a joint operation to track down the suspects. The arrested individual has been identified as Bulbul Alam, who was posted at the Dhupguri police station. Police teams are currently conducting raids to locate and apprehend the two remaining suspects who are currently absconding.

An official from the Jalpaiguri district police stated that while the incident occurred outside their direct jurisdiction, they provided full support to the Mekhliganj police for the operation. The primary investigation into the case is being handled by the Mekhliganj police station. The family of the victim has demanded strict legal action against all those involved in the crime.
