A CISF trooper from Assam has received a special award for catching a passenger who tried to run away from a security check at a Delhi metro station. The incident took place on October 17 at the Jama Masjid metro station in Delhi.
The passenger reached the security checkpoint and placed his bag on the X-ray scanner. The scanner showed a very dark and dense object inside the bag.
CISF personnel asked the passenger to open the bag for a physical check. Instead of opening the bag, the passenger picked it up, ran out of the frisking booth, and headed towards the exit gate.
CISF trooper Abhishek Verma, who was on duty at the entry point, chased the passenger and stopped him at the gate. The passenger was brought to the station control room and identified himself as a Non-Resident Indian from Kuala Lumpur.
A semi-solid substance was found stitched inside an undergarment inside his bag. Because the substance could not be identified on the spot, the Delhi Metro Rail Police was called and the passenger was handed over to them for further investigation.
Abhishek Verma was awarded the Director General's Commendation Certificate and a cash reward of 10,000 rupees. Verma belongs to the West Karbi Anglong district in Assam and has served in the force for more than eight years.
CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan praised Verma for his alertness and quick action.
