The mortal remains of 25-year-old CISF jawan Pramir Sarkar reached his native village in Mathabhanga on Monday after he died of a gunshot wound while on duty at the Rawatbhata nuclear power plant in Rajasthan. A large number of villagers and local representatives gathered at his home to pay their final respects as the body arrived draped in the national flag following a bike rally.
Pramir Sarkar had joined the CISF in 2025 and was posted at Rawatbhata about six months ago.
He had visited his home for a vacation just a month before returning to duty. According to preliminary information,
he sustained a bullet injury from his service rifle during security duty early Saturday morning and was declared dead at the hospital.
Family members rushed to Rajasthan after receiving the initial news of his death.
Local leaders including former MLA Sushil Barman visited the grieving family to offer their condolences.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances under which the weapon was discharged.
