Mizoram batter Chinmay Sutar made history on Monday by becoming only the second Indian cricketer to score a quadruple century in first-class cricket. The 29-year-old smashed an unbeaten 400 runs against Nagaland during a Ranji Trophy Plate League match held in Sovima, Nagaland.
Sutar achieved this major milestone by surpassing Prithvi Shaw score of 379 runs.
This is now the second-highest individual score in the entire history of the Ranji Trophy. He fell just short of the all-time tournament record of 443 not out set by Bhausaheb Nimbalkar in the 1948-49 season. Sutar reached his 400th run in the 155th over before Mizoram declared their innings at 581 runs for the loss of nine wickets.
During his record-making knock, Sutar shared an unbroken 190-run partnership for the 10th wicket with teammate Lalrempunia Chhakchhuak.
This vital partnership helped Mizoram cross the 500-run mark and stands as the third-highest 10th-wicket partnership in Ranji Trophy history. Sutar previously played for Mumbai before moving to Mizoram ahead of the domestic season after receiving a No Objection Certificate from the Mumbai Cricket Association.
