Centre Extends AFSPA In Parts Of Arunachal Pradesh

The Central government has extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in three districts of Arunachal Pradesh and certain adjoining areas for another six months, effective from October 1, 2026. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs made this announcement through an official notification.

Districts Covered Under The Order

Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts, along with areas under Namsai, Mahadevpur and Chowkham police stations in Namsai district, have been declared as disturbed areas. This decision follows a fresh review of the law-and-order situation in the state. The extension will remain in force till March 31, 2027.

Powers Under AFSPA

AFSPA grants special powers to armed forces deployed in disturbed areas, including the authority to conduct operations and arrest without warrant. These areas have seen periodic extensions of the act in recent years due to insurgency-related activities and their proximity to the Assam border.
