Central Colony Durga Puja Moves to New Venue in Siliguri

The 64th annual Central Colony Durga Puja committee has officially performed the Khunti Puja, marking the start of preparations for this year's festival despite a change in location. The committee successfully conducted the traditional ground-breaking ceremony on Sunday to ensure the continuity of the long-standing community event.

Change of Venue for Traditional Puja

For many years, the Puja was held at the Railway Institute ground. However, the ongoing construction of a new railway stadium at the original site created uncertainty regarding this year's celebration. To overcome this obstacle, the committee decided to shift the event to the Barrack Colony ground located near the NJP police station.

Continuing the Legacy

Following established traditions, the committee members brought sacred soil and a wooden pole from the original Railway Institute ground to the new location to perform the rituals. Secretary of the Puja committee, Sourav Nath, stated that the organization is committed to maintaining the 64-year-old tradition despite the logistical challenges.

Expectations for the Upcoming Festival

Organizers expressed confidence that the change in venue will not impact the popularity of the event. The committee expects a large turnout of devotees and visitors at the new site and has invited the public to participate in the festivities.
