Border Security Force patrol squads stopped an armed group of motorized longboats carrying illegal items through the Brahmaputra River channels near Dhubri.
The smugglers were moving through shallow waters in low light without any navigation lights. When BSF boats stopped them, the couriers left their watercraft and ran away into the marshy island scrub.
Security personnel towed two abandoned wooden boats to safety and found waterproof bundles at the scene. Village defense parties reported that nighttime syndicate movements are disrupting local fishing.
Around 30.37 kilometers of the border remain unfenced because of the complex riverine geography. The BSF uses the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System and boat observation outposts to monitor these open areas.
