BSF Chief Reviews Manipur Security After Violence

Border Security Force Director General Praveen Kumar finished a two-day visit to Manipur on October 13, 2026, to check security after a rise in ethnic violence. Recent clashes on October 9 and 10 led to at least nine deaths in the Kamjong, Ukhrul, and Kangpokpi districts according to an ANI news report. During the visit, Director General Kumar met with Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to check how security forces are prepared and deployed.

Security Meetings and Force Requests

Official talks focused on the unstable law and order situation, which includes firing, arson, and ambushes. The state government has asked the Union Home Ministry for 3,000 extra central paramilitary personnel, including CoBRA and Rapid Action Force units, to strengthen security. These steps aim to stop insurgent groups and bring back stability to rural and hill areas.

Peace Efforts and AFSPA Implementation

Director General Kumar promised the BSF will work closely with the civil administration, Manipur Police, Indian Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, ITBP, and SSB to keep the peace. The meetings also covered the use of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, which the Ministry of Home Affairs extended for six months from October 1, 2026, across most of the state. Between February 4 and October 11, 2026, the region saw 84 conflict deaths and 78 injuries, with authorities on high alert for upcoming shutdowns and protests.
