A body of a young man was found inside a sack in the Swamiji Nagar area of Newtown on Saturday morning, creating panic among local residents. Local people suspected foul play after seeing the suspicious sack lying by the side of the road and informed the police.
Police reached the spot and opened the sack to find the dead body of a man inside.
The police recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
The deceased was identified as Saurabh Biswas, whose age is stated to be around 32 to 35 years.
Police found multiple injury marks on the body along with tattoo marks across it.
Police are checking CCTV footage from cameras installed near the incident site to find out who brought and dumped the body.
The Eco Park police station has started an investigation into the matter from various angles.
Police are waiting for the post-mortem report to get clear information about the exact cause of death.
