BJP suspends two leaders over misconduct in Asansol

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken disciplinary action against two of its leaders in Asansol, West Burdwan, for allegedly misbehaving with police officers and obstructing government work. The party has also dissolved the Raniganj Mandal-1 committee with immediate effect.

Details of the disciplinary action

According to senior BJP leaders, Anand Shaw and Asansol organisational district secretary Badshah Chatterjee have been removed from all organisational responsibilities. Asansol district president Devtanu Bhattacharya issued a formal notice regarding this decision.

Background of the incident

The incident occurred on August 14, a day before Independence Day. A dispute took place between Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) workers and BJP members in Asansol, leading to multiple arrests by the police. Reports state that Badshah Chatterjee was among those arrested by the police.

Following these arrests, Anand Shaw and other party workers visited the police station to protest the action and demand the release of their colleagues. During this visit, a heated argument reportedly broke out between the BJP workers and police personnel inside the station premises. Following this confrontation, the police arrested several individuals, including Anand Shaw. A video of this incident was also circulated on social media. The BJP leadership initiated disciplinary proceedings against the two leaders on Tuesday night.
