BJP MP Sambit Patra stated that the Northeast region has witnessed a major transformation since 2014. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Patra highlighted the government's focus on development, cultural recognition, and key regional issues. He said that the region has changed from being considered non-existent to becoming a new engine of growth for India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Patra said that discussions were held with newly elected MLAs on various development matters concerning the Northeast. The talks included the demand for the recognition of regional languages, specifically the inclusion of the Khasi and Garo languages in the recognized language list. He emphasized that the government aims to respect every language and tribe in the region.
Other important concerns discussed included coal mining and the rehabilitation of the Sikh community. Patra stated that the government is looking into necessary amendments and expressed confidence that these issues will be successfully resolved under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following the approach of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Vikas.
