Women across multiple districts in West Bengal protested on Friday after failing to receive the three thousand rupees Annapurna scheme money in their bank accounts. Demonstrations took place outside block development offices and government buildings in areas including West Medinipur, Jalpaiguri, Malda, Hooghly, and Bankura.
Hundreds of women blocked roads and gathered outside government offices to demand their money. In West Medinipur, women blocked a state road and protested outside the block office.
Protesters also blocked roads and railway tracks in other areas like Birati in North 24 Parganas and Rajganj in Jalpaiguri. Women gathered outside the Siliguri Municipal Corporation office to raise their demands. The protesters stated that despite applying for the scheme and repeatedly visiting government offices, they have not received the money and their issues remain unresolved.
Demonstrators alleged that eligible applicants are missing out while ineligible people are receiving payments. According to the Bankura district administration, around 8.77 lakh women received the scheme funds by August 18, and verification for late applicants is still ongoing.
