The Board of Control for Cricket in India Secretary Devajit Saikia congratulated the Indian Women cricket team for winning the gold medal at the Asian Games. The team defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final match.
India scored a massive total of 216 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the title clash. Smriti Mandhana scored 79 runs while Shafali Verma made 48 runs and Richa Ghosh added 49 runs. In reply, Sri Lanka was bowled out for only 69 runs in 15.4 overs.
Bowler Deepti Sharma took three wickets while other bowlers claimed crucial wickets to secure the massive win.Devajit Saikia praised captain Harmanpreet Kaur, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, players, head coach Amol Muzumdar and the support staff for their success. The victory marks India second successive Asian Games gold medal in women cricket following their previous win at Hangzhou in 2023.
